Settling on Unsettled
The unsettled weather continues into the final days of April as a large area of low pressure remains in the Gulf of Alaska. The airmass will remain unstable resulting in widespread showers and possible (low severity) thunderstorms in the interior of BC. The Peace and North Rockies could see higher precipitation associated with a lee low especially Sunday night and into Monday. A trend to drier conditions is in store over the northern half of the province starting Tuesday.
The 500 MB animation depicted above shows an upper level are of low pressure over the Gulf of Alaska. Stepping through the animation we see this upper level area of low pressure slowly wobble southeastwards. As a result it will remain the dominate feature over BC through today and Monday with unsettled weather. Eventually, the area of low pressure will slide into the US with the unsettled weather being confined to the southern half of the province by Tuesday and more so Wednesday.
