Mountain Weather Forecast

The Omega Block is still here

An Omega blocking pattern is affecting the weather for most of BC with a ridge of high pressure centred over northern and central BC, sandwiched between two lows. One over the Pacific Ocean, and the other over Saskatchewan. This stable weather pattern should give generally dry conditions for the majority of BC for the rest of the week. The exceptions will be along eastern facing slopes of the Rockies along the BC/Alberta border, and mountain ranges along the US/Canada border where a northeasterly upslope flow and lingering instability will produce light precipitation this week.

The 500 mb animation shows an omega block pattern over BC with two upper lows. One to the west over the Pacific Ocean, and the other to east over Saskatchewan. This stable weather pattern will block incoming Pacific weather systems bringing dry and benign weather for the remainder of the week. By Saturday night the omega pattern shifts eastwards making way for a Pacific frontal system to approach the BC coast.
