Description
After skiing down the upper SE facing slopes in corn conditions, went to ski the S facing gully feature. It appeared to be cross loaded and had a thin band of safe snow. Hoping to find safer snow 1 skier crossed the gully. Upon reaching the far side above a small cliff a slab released across the face, first at ski level, then 3 successive small slabs released above the skier. There was no cross-loading, the whole face had been loaded, other than ridge top, putting the skier in the middle of the slab. The skier was carried 200m vertical down the slope, but ended up on top and managed to make it to the side before the slide stopped and settled.

Snowpack comment
~50cm of snow overlying a crust. At lower elevations the crust was moist and appeared well bonded. Above 2200m the crust was well frozen and the bond was poor.
