Hugh and Helen Hincks Memorial Fund

Hugh & Helen Hincks Memorial Fund

$10,000 was raised in part for the CAF at the Sept. 11th HLH Memorial Golf Tournament at Grey Wolf Golf Course, Panorama, BC. Thank you to all who participated and contributed! Save Sept. 10th, 2010 for this year's tournament.

Hugh & Helen Hincks were tragically killed as the result of an avalanche accident during an Austrian ski vacation in 2005. The Calgary-based couple are survived by their three children Morgan, Teddy and Daniel Hincks of Calgary. The Hincks’ children wanted to honour their parents’ love for winter mountain travel and their respect for furthering public avalanche safety initiatives, research and education by setting up the Hugh & Helen Hincks’ Memorial Fund through the Canadian Avalanche Foundation.

The response to the memorial fund in their parents’ names has been overwhelming. "For the Hincks family to set aside their immediate grief and try to make some sort of a positive out of such a tragedy by setting up this memorial fund with the CAF shows amazing character and strength," said CAF President Chris Stethem.

At the request of the Hincks family, the Canadian Avalanche Foundation will manage and direct memorial funds toward avalanche education initiatives that will impact high school age people. The Foundation has already begun work with its partners, the Canadian Avalanche Centre, the British Columbia Provincial Emergency Program and avalanche safety educators, to deliver these avalanche safety education programs, with a pilot program to begin this coming winter.
Interested donors to the Hugh & Helen Hincks’ Memorial Fund can mail in their donations to: CAF, 409 – 8th Ave., Canmore, AB T1W 2E6 (cheques made payable to the Canadian Avalanche Foundation).
