Pre-trip Preparation

A major component of pre-trip preparation is information gathering. One of the best ways to avoid getting caught in an avalanche is to choose routes that are appropriate for the conditions. To do so, you first need to gather information on current and expected avalanche danger to determine what areas are more susceptible to avalanches than others during that particular time period. Then an appropriate route can be chosen based on its exposure to avalanche terrain.

Our planning section includes a spot to collect information on weather, a place to view information on popular trips (the trip planner) and a place where avalanche safety issues, conditions and information can be exchanged between peers (discussion forums). Check out the links to the left for these features.
