iProbe
New for winter 2009-10 Pieps’ digital probe emits a signal when the probe tip approaches a transmitting beacon. The goal is to streamline probing and increase one’s confidence that a “strike” is real.
Avalung
Avalung technology works on the idea of assisting the inhalation of air contained within the snow, while diverting exhaled air away from the fresh-air intake. The goal is to extend survival time if buried.
Although there is anecdotal information on the effectiveness of this tool, there insufficient independent research confirm the claims of its effectiveness.
