- Pre-Trip Planning
Events help us bring attention to avalanche safety and awareness. Our two premiere events are the Backcountry Avalanche Workshops, presented by Columbia Brewery, and Avalanche Awareness Days, presented by Canadian Pacific. Whether we're the host or one of the participants, it's all about getting together to share knowledge and celebrate respectful use of the winter backcountry. Come join us at an outreach event this winter!
Through the 2013-14 season we directly reached over 6000 people! This is through a combination of snowmobile outreach, Backcountry Avalanche Workshops, partner events, CAC (now Avalanche Canada) run events, and youth outreach funded by a SARNIF grant. We reach even more through Avalanche Awareness Days events.
2014-15 Events and Outreach Schedule: We will be on the road again with our Backcountry Avalanche Workshop series sponsored by Columbia Brewery and local organizations. Check this link to see if there is one near you. Note: all BAWs are free, evening avalanche awareness programs open to all backcountry recreationists. A great pre-season tune-up! This year's BAW tour will be in southern BC and AB between Nov. 19 - 24 (visiting the communities of Rossland, Cranbrook. Lethbridge, Calgary and Canmore).
Other outreach events include:

Check our Partner Events for other avalanche awareness and outreach opportunities.
A big thank you to Canadian Pacific, Columbia Brewery, Mountain Equipment Co-op, Teck Coal and others for supporting these events and helping us spread the word about avalanche safety and education.
Thanks to all of you who help spread the word of avalanche safety and awareness. We encourage everyone to continually pursue more training and highly recommend anyone heading into the backcountry to take an Avalanche Skills Training course. If you have your AST 1, why not go further and take an AST 2. Or if you need a refresher, or have limited time, try our one day Companion Rescue Skills course.
Looking for an avalanche outreach event in your community?
The CAC presents at various events throughout the winter season. If you are interested in having an avalanche outreach event in your community please contact us. We may have a forecaster or outreach personnel in the area. If not, we are requesting cost recovery from the community or organization that makes the booking. Each event is looked at individually to estimate costs.
