Valuable weather resources from the Backcountry Workshop offered in Revelstoke in November 2012. You may have heard Uwe give his entertaining presentation on weather but if you missed it, check the web resources found on the download to the right to hone your weather forecasting skills for the winter.

The CAC Backcountry Workshops were a great success this past season directly reaching over 700 people in Revelstoke, Calgary and throughout BC.

The CAC also directly reached over 1300 people through partner events. Backcountry Workshops were held at Mountain Equipment Co-op stores in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and N. Vancouver. We also held events in Fernie, Cranbrook, Valemount, Vancouver and more.

We are planning a Backcountry Workshop tour in northern BC and also the S. Coast/ Vancouver Island. If you are interested in having a free, evening presentation in your community, please contact us.

Here are some comments from workshop participants in Calgary and Revelstoke:

Great to have such a wide range of backcountry safety components covered by experts! Well done.

Really eye-opening. Made me think about risk and how I can protect myself and others in the future.

A vast amount of knowledge all packed into one day.

Informative presentations increased my knowledge and awareness to help make more informed decisions.

An excellent primer and/or refresher for the season.

It was worth taking a day off skiing!

The CAC wishes to thank the Revelstoke Credit Union and Columbia Basin Trust for sponsoring the Revelstoke Backcountry Workshop; the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies for sponsoring the Calgary Backcountry Workshop; and our presenting sponsor, Columbia Brewery, for their continuing support of the BAWs that we've taken to numerous communities. We also wish to thank the local, on-the-ground organizers from the communities who were integral to the success of the individual workshops.

Check back in the fall to find out details on the 2013-14 outreach events schedule.
