Why Become a CAC Member?

Public avalanche safety services such as bulletins, route information, discussion forums and educational materials are not supplied by the government in Canada. These services have always been delivered by grassroots input from professionals who work in avalanche terrain, regular backcountry users like you and me and all the folks who believe in sharing information and knowledge about avalanche safety.

Not too long ago government investment in public avalanche safety services was restricted to small areas in provincial and national parks. Only token yearly contributions were directed to public avalanche safety services in the vast amount of remaining terrain. Hard work by dedicated proponents of public avalanche safety and high profile tragic avalanche accidents combined to convince both provincial and federal governments to invest in the Canadian Avalanche Centre. Today two thirds of our funding comes from government sources.

A healthy membership helps the CAC remind our government partners that public avalanche safety services are important and should continue to improve.

Your $20 membership also helps us fund important programs and improvements. Please select a membership category on the left navigation panel to find more detailed information on the benefits of membership, and to download an application form.
