The CAA's Industry Training Program (ITP) courses are widely recognized as some of the highest standard training for avalanche workers internationally. Innovative research, best practices, decision making and operational risk management concepts are all essential to avalanche risk management programs in Canada. You'll find all that and more in an ITP course.

Our ITP is a fully bonded and provincially licensed private post-secondary educational institution. We train over 500 students annually in numerous locations across Canada. ITP courses are designed for avalanche-related work such as:

  • Ski resort snow safety teams
  • Mechanized wilderness guiding operations (snow cat and heliskiing operations)
  • Non-mechanized wilderness guiding operations (backcountry lodges, ski touring, ice climbing, etc)
  • Highways, Railways, Mining, Forestry and Construction operations
  • Government and Non-Government Public Service Programs (Parks Canada, Provincial Parks, Pubic Avalanche Bulletin programs)
  • Snowmobile Wilderness Guiding Operations
  • Research and Education (University graduate programs, public avalanche skills training, etc)
  • Planning, zoning and engineering work related to avalanche hazard and risk management.
  • Professional and volunteer winter mountain search and rescue related programs

Mission Statement

The ITP is dedicated to providing world class technical and vocational training and continuing professional development courses to meet the evolving needs of persons employed in avalanche hazard control operations in Canada

ITP curriculum is also delivered every year in countries such as Japan, New Zealand and Iceland. If you are interested in finding out more about our international outreach projects please contact the CAA directly for more information.
