The International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS) recently updated the standards for classification ofseasonal snow on the ground. This publication was the result of an international collaborative effort, chaired by Dr. Charles Fierz of the SLF in Switzerland. There were numerous authors of the final publication. Long time CAA Professional Member Dr. Dave McClung was an author and contributor to this project.
The CAA has adopted the revised ICSS 2009 standards as standard for Canadian snow and avalanche work. They form an appendix in the CAA's Observations Guidelines and Recording Standards (OGRS) publication.
