Land Managers Guide to Snow Avalanche Hazards in Canada

This guide is intended to assist land managers in Canada and their consultants with recognizing and mitigating potential snow avalanche hazards that might affect existing or proposed fices operations and facilities in their jurisdiction. Such facilities and fixed operations include:

• Corridors for transportations, energy or communication.
• Temproarily occupied structures, industrial plant and mine facilities.
• Work sites such as construction projects and forest harvest operations.
• Commercial backcountry recreational operations.
• Ski areas and the associated lifts and buildings.
• Residential and permanently occupid structures.

While this guide is intended for land managers, a companion volume entitled Guidelines for Snow Avalanche Risk Determination and Mapping in Canada (Canadian Avalanche Association 2002) provides the technical reference for avalanche consultants and others interested in a definitive statement of the guidelines.
