How to Apply for Membership

See Membership Categories if you are not sure which membership to apply for.
Follow the steps below to ensure your application is processed as quickly as possible.

  1. Complete the relevant pdf fillable application form.
  2. Email the application form, cover letter and resume to ssmith at avalanche dot ca
  3. You will be contacted if we require additional information. Your complete application may be forwarded to the Membership Committee for approval.

How much does it cost?

For each application there is a non-refundable application fee of $25+tax*.

Annual Membership Dues are as follows:
Professional Member              $250 + tax*
Active Member                          $156.25 + tax*
Affiliate Member                       $125 + tax*

Associate Member (<10 FTE** avalanche related employees)         $250 + tax*
Associate Member (10-20 FTE** avalanche related employees)      $375 + tax*
Associate Member (>20 FTE** avalanche related employees)         $625 + tax*

* tax of the province that you reside
** 1 FTE = 262 working days. To calculate the number of FTE’s in your organization, add the total number of working date of each avalanche worker and divide by 262.

Annual dues cover from January through December of that year.  Members will automatically be billed prior to January 1 unless they resign their membership in writing.

Members who have not paid their dues by June of that year will become Members Not In Good Standing at which time a statement of accounts will be mailed.  As per the CAA Bylaws, that membership will be cancelled 4 months after becoming a Member Not In Good Standing.

Continuing Professional Development & Membership Auditing

Active and Professional members must abide by the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) guidelines. You are not required to submit your CPD activity record to the CAA however; the Membership Committee annually selects a number of Active and Professional members to be audited at which time you must be able to provide them with your CPD record.

Changing Membership Categories

If you are currently a member and would like to switch category e.g from Active to Professional, you must go through the membership application process in full.

If you are no longer working full time in the industry and do not qualify under the CPD guidelines to remain as an Active or Professional member then you may in writing request to be switched to Active or Affiliate.
